“Youth Voice Through Youth Media”
“How do I know who I am and what I believe, until I’ve been given the opportunity to say it?” West Prep Academy encourages students to understand the power of their voice, and their capacity to speak up and to demand change in the world around them- all while harnessing the power of media.
By integrating this theme of “Youth Voice Through Youth Media” into the curriculum, we are able to motivate and excite our students about learning. Scholars here participate in explorative projects that require inquiry, collaboration, and reflection.
West Prep strives to develop students who will problem solve, think critically, and become socially responsible members of a diverse community. Once students have engaged in our schools Youth Voice Youth Media theme for three years, they will be able to: communicate using a variety of tools in order to express themselves and their learning. share their unique stories with others- This will empower them to build the future that they choose. access their voice in order to create change in their own lives and their community. harness the power of technology as a vehicle to deliver meaningful messages.
The Magnet philosophy also believes that technology must be part of any 21st century school. Our students harness the tremendous power of technology and the media in our world and through careful exploration of film, video, TV print and other technology, students become media savvy.
