International Day of The Girl

International Day of the Girl - October 11th

October 11th - International day of the Girl. Marked by the United Nations as a day to promote girl's human rights, highlight gender inequalities and address the various forms of discrimination and abuse suffered by girls around the world.

Last year, PTA hosted an amazing panel discussion not only for our WPA girls but the entire student body. Our conversations included but were not limited to: Peer Pressure, Social Media, Gender Equality, Sexism, Planning for the Future and Navigating through Teen Years.

Our children left knowing they have a voice and we are listening. Changes were asked to be made around the school (including more step time, a basketball team where girls could feel included) and we worked as a team to make sure those changes happened. **Thank you Mr. Washington**

This year, the UN's theme for International Day of the Girl is : "With Her: A Skilled GirlForce", which marks the beginning of a year-long effort to advocate female entrepreneurship and provide young women across the world with the tools they need to carve their own professional paths.

Our future is filled with endless possibilities. Continue to fight for what you believe in and always know you won't have to do it alone.

We celebrate you today and everyday!

***International Day of the Boy will come to WPA this year. Stay tuned***
